A photographic haven lodged in history. People of Russian lineage from Kodiak originally began settling the area in the 1840‘s, as a fur trading village. Ninilchik is now a small fishing community that lives up to it's given name "peaceful settlement by a river."

Centrally located on the Kenai Peninsula, Ninilchik is a picturesque 180 mile drive south of Anchorage. The tiny town extends north and south along the Sterling Highway from mile markers 134 to 138, and eastward into the Caribou Hills. Today the economy and its 800 to 1,200 residents (depending upon the time of year) are focused mainly on tourism (AK local and out-of-state) and sport fishing, as well as commercial fishing.
